Description
Volunteer with the Children's Advocacy Center of Kent County – Center Glow Ups
Join fellow GRCC students for a Day of Service at the Children's Advocacy Center of Kent County! Help create a warm, welcoming, and healing environment for children and families by assisting with projects that prepare the center for the fall and winter seasons.
The Children's Advocacy Center supports children, non-offending caregivers, and families who have experienced child sexual abuse by providing forensic interviews, therapy, advocacy, court support, medical exams, and prevention education throughout Kent County.
What You'll Be Doing
Participants may assist with:
- Closing down the healing garden for the season
- Cleaning and reorganizing storage spaces and sheds
- Painting and organizing various workspaces throughout the building
- Other indoor and outdoor projects as needed
Your volunteer efforts help ensure the center remains a safe, welcoming, and healing space for the children and families they serve.
Participant Expectations
- Closed-toe shoes are required.
- Wear clothes that can get dirty and dress appropriately for the weather.
- Volunteers should bring any personal items they may need, such as sunscreen or bug spray.
- Participants should expect activities such as standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and both indoor and outdoor work.
- Volunteers are expected to attend the entire volunteer shift.
- A post-event reflection is required following participation.
Before You Attend
- Please arrive between 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
- Volunteers will receive a brief orientation (approximately 10–15 minutes) upon arrival.
- Participants will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement before volunteering.
- Volunteer activities may be adjusted based on weather conditions and group size.
What's Provided
- Coffee, tea, water, and snacks will be provided.
- All supplies and materials needed for volunteer projects will be provided by the Children's Advocacy Center.

- Park in the lower-level parking lot and enter through the large covered entrance.
- Staff will greet volunteers upon arrival.
Weather Policy
Outdoor projects will continue as planned, weather permitting. Volunteer activities may be adjusted as needed.

Questions & Answers
- Do I need prior volunteer experience?
No! No prior experience is necessary. Staff will provide an orientation and instructions for all volunteer activities.
- What should I wear?
Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Dress appropriately for the weather, as some activities may take place outdoors.
- Will transportation be provided?
No. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to the volunteer site.
- Will food be provided?
Light refreshments, including coffee, tea, water, and snacks, will be available for volunteers.
- Do I need to stay for the entire event?
Yes. Volunteers are expected to participate for the entire volunteer shift unless prior arrangements have been made.
- What kind of volunteer work will I be doing?
Volunteer projects may include gardening, painting, organizing, cleaning, and other projects that help create a welcoming environment for children and families receiving services at the center.
- Is there anything I need to complete before the event?
Participants will sign a confidentiality agreement and receive a brief orientation upon arrival.
- Is there a requirement after the event?
Yes. GRCC Day of Service participants will be asked to complete a brief reflection survey following the event.
- How many volunteer hours will I receive?
Participants will receive approximately four volunteer hours for completing the full volunteer shift.
