Description
Volunteer with Community Action House – Donation Support
Join fellow GRCC students for a Day of Service with Community Action House in Holland! Help support an organization dedicated to providing food, clothing, shelter, and resources that empower individuals and families to achieve stability and financial well-being.
What You'll Be Doing
Participants will assist the Community Action House Resale Store team with a variety of projects that may include:
- Sorting and pricing clothing, linens, and household items
- Stocking the sales floor
- Reorganizing displays
- Assisting with special projects based on the Resale team's needs
Your volunteer efforts help fund critical programs and services that support neighbors throughout Ottawa and Allegan counties.
Participant Expectations
- Closed-toe shoes are required.
- Dress in comfortable clothing and layers appropriate for indoor work.
- Bring a reusable water bottle.
- Participants should expect activities such as standing, walking, bending, repetitive movement, and lifting items under 20 pounds.
- Volunteers are expected to attend the entire volunteer shift.
- A post-event reflection is required following participation.
Before You Attend
- Please arrive by 12:00 p.m.
- Volunteers will receive a brief orientation (approximately 5–10 minutes) upon arrival.
- A liability waiver will be required before volunteering.
- Participants must be at least 10 years old.
What's Provided
- Community Action House will provide any necessary materials and supplies for volunteer activities.

- Enter through the main doors and let the cashier know you are with the GRCC volunteer group.
- Free parking is available in the front parking lot.
Weather Policy
This volunteer opportunity is held indoors and will continue as scheduled unless severe weather requires shelter-in-place procedures.

Questions & Answers
- Do I need prior volunteer experience?
No! No prior experience is necessary. Community Action House staff will provide a brief orientation and instructions for volunteer activities.
- What should I wear?
Please wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Dressing in layers is recommended.
- Will transportation be provided?
No. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to the volunteer site.
- Will food be provided?
Snacks will be provided by group leader. Please bring a reusable water bottle and eat before arriving if needed.
- Do I need to stay for the entire event?
Yes. Volunteers are expected to participate for the entire volunteer shift unless prior arrangements have been made.
- What kind of volunteer work will I be doing?
Volunteers may sort and price donated items, stock merchandise, reorganize displays, and assist with other projects that support Community Action House's mission and programs.
- Is there anything I need to complete before the event?
A liability waiver will be completed prior to volunteering. A brief orientation will also be provided when you arrive.
- Is there a requirement after the event?
Yes. GRCC Day of Service participants will be asked to complete a brief reflection following the event.
- How many volunteer hours will I receive?
Participants will receive approximately four volunteer hours for completing the full volunteer shift.
